Which software should I use to run an MMA tournament?

CompetHub is online software to organize an amateur MMA tournament. It handles registrations by weight and age class, the weigh-in and re-seeding, generates the single-elimination bracket, advances the winner of each bout automatically, keeps the ranking and the schedule by cage, then publishes it all on a branded public page.

The MMA organizer's real problem

Building an amateur MMA tournament on a spreadsheet means keeping several grids in parallel. MMA is contested by gender, by weight and by age: the IMMAF amateur rules count nine weight classes, from strawweight (-52.2 kg) to heavyweight (-120.2 kg), to which the youth grids are added. Each class runs its own competition, with its own bouts.

On event day, the headache steps up a notch. The amateur MMA weigh-in takes place on the day of the bout, with no tolerance, then each class is played out in a single-elimination bracket (whoever loses is out). Drawing these brackets by hand, carrying over each winner, recomposing the rounds, all of it across one or several cages at the same time, multiplies the mistakes and the dead time.

On top comes the tracking. You have to know who is fighting, in which cage and at what time, and inform a public that doesn't see the scoring sheets. A spreadsheet doesn't keep up with this pace. Dedicated software centralizes registrations, weigh-in, brackets, results and schedule, and makes every line reliable.

Why not run an MMA tournament in Excel?

Excel forces you to recopy each registration, to draw each bracket by hand and to carry over each winner from one bout to the next. A single carry-over error throws off an entire bracket. Dedicated software generates the bracket, advances the winner automatically and publishes the schedule, with no recopying.

How CompetHub runs an MMA tournament

CompetHub ties each building block of the software to the reality of an amateur MMA tournament. Here's how.

Online registrations, club lists and weigh-in

Each fighter registers online in their class. The staff sees the list, filters by class and by status, searches by name, approves or rejects each request and checks in the present fighters (check-in) on event day. An automatic email goes out on registration, on approval and on rejection. You can also enter a club's list in bulk: fighter records without an account, created in one go. At the weigh-in (on the day of the bout in amateur MMA), you record each fighter's body weight, and CompetHub automatically re-seeds them into the right weight class when only one fits.

Weight, age and level classes

You create your classes by combining three axes: gender, weight (bounds in kg, for example the IMMAF amateur classes from strawweight to heavyweight) and age (year bounds, from youth to seniors). A fourth, free-form level field lets you specify the required grade or tier. The fighter chooses their class at registration, you keep control over approval, and the weigh-in confirms the weight class.

Single-elimination bracket

Amateur MMA is played in single elimination: whoever loses is out, the winner advances all the way to the final. CompetHub generates this bracket automatically, with an optional bout for 3rd place. For a class with very few entries, a pool (round-robin) remains possible. The winner of each bout advances on its own. No more bracket redrawn by hand between two rounds.

Bout entry and automatic advancement

In the cage, the referee and three judges decide the winner: by decision under the 10-point must system, by KO or TKO on referee stoppage, or by submission. This decision belongs to the officials, not the software. In CompetHub, all you have to do is record the winner of each bout; the winner then advances on its own to the next round. An entry error stays correctable. You never carry over a result from one sheet to another again.

Pool ranking and schedule by cage

For classes played in a pool, CompetHub keeps the table of bouts played, wins, draws and losses, awards the points (three for a win, one for a draw) and breaks ties on the difference. On the schedule side, you assign each bout a cage (free-form label) and a time, and CompetHub displays the schedule and flags conflicts (same cage in the same slot). You orchestrate your cages without a side spreadsheet.

Public results page

You publish a public page in the tournament's colors (logo, colors), with the overview, the participants and the brackets. It updates automatically during the competition, without the spectator reloading the page, and stays accessible without an account. The list of entrants, the pool ranking and the schedule export to CSV for your archives.

How do I create an MMA tournament with CompetHub?

Create your account, add the tournament, create your weight and age classes, then open registrations. On event day, weigh in the fighters, generate the single-elimination bracket, enter the winner of each bout (the winner advances on its own) and publish the results, ready to follow on the public page.

Which format to run for an MMA tournament

Amateur MMA is played through head-to-head bouts within each weight class, in single elimination: that's the standard tournament format (notably under the IMMAF format from six entries per class). The two fighters beaten in the semi-finals classically each receive a bronze medal. CompetHub generates the elimination bracket (with an optional bout for 3rd place) and, for the very smallest classes, the pool, and advances the winner automatically at each bout entered.

Which format for an MMA tournament?

Amateur MMA is contested in a single-elimination bracket by weight class. For a class with very few entries, a pool (round-robin) remains possible. CompetHub generates the bracket and the pool, advances the winner on its own and keeps the ranking of each pool up to date.
