Which software should I use to run a weightlifting competition?

CompetHub is online software to organize a weightlifting competition. It reuses the powerlifting meet engine in two-lift mode: it handles registrations by weight class, the weigh-in, the flights, the entry of snatch and clean & jerk attempts, the three-white-light judging, calculates the total and publishes the ranking by weight class on a branded public page. The weightlifting preset names the two lifts in one click.

The weightlifting organizer's real problem

A weightlifting competition comes down to two lifts, but the sequence is dense. Each athlete first goes through three snatch attempts, then three clean & jerk attempts, so six bars, in precise weight and age classes. The weigh-in takes place two hours before and sets the official body weight. Tracking all of this in Excel means recopying each registration, sorting each athlete into their class and keeping the weigh-in sheet apart.

On event day, the pace picks up. The lifting order is recalculated with each announced load, from lightest to heaviest, and three referees judge each attempt with the lights. Carrying over by hand the good lifts, the best attempts and the total, between two attempts, multiplies the mistakes.

On top comes the ranking. The total (best snatch + best clean & jerk) breaks each class, the lightest wins on a tie, and the comparison between classes is done with the Sinclair coefficient. On a spreadsheet, a single sum error throws off the standings. Dedicated software centralizes this data and makes every figure reliable.

Why not run a weightlifting competition in Excel?

Excel forces you to recopy each registration, to track six attempts per athlete and to add up the best ones by hand. A carry-over or sum error throws off the total and the ranking. Dedicated software centralizes registrations, weigh-in, attempts and ranking, and removes the recopying.

How CompetHub runs a weightlifting competition

CompetHub ties each building block of the software to the reality of a weightlifting competition. Here's how.

Online registrations and approval

Each athlete registers online in their weight class. The staff approves or rejects each request and checks in the present athletes (check-in) on event day. Transactional emails go out automatically on registration, on approval and on rejection. You keep a clean list, with no duplicate or file to cross-check.

Weight classes and weightlifting preset

You create the weight, age and gender classes of your competition. The IWF weight classes in force (for Los Angeles 2028: men 65, 75, 85, 95, 110 and +110 kg; women 53, 61, 69, 77, 86 and +86 kg) serve as a reference, knowing that the national level offers more classes, by age bracket (from youth to masters). On the lifts side, you enable the meet format in Total mode and apply the weightlifting preset: the two slots become snatch and clean & jerk.

Weigh-in and flights

At the weigh-in (two hours before the class begins), you enter the body weight and the draw number of each athlete, directly in the tool. You then compose your flights (lifting groups) and assign the athletes to them. Everything is centralized: no more weigh-in sheet separate from the rest.

Entry of snatch and clean & jerk attempts

For each athlete, you declare the load of each of their attempts (up to three per lift) then you judge the attempt as good or missed. CompetHub keeps only the best valid attempt of each lift for the total. The engine handles the two lifts of weightlifting: the snatch then the clean & jerk, with no third lift.

Lifting order and judging with the lights

On the platform, CompetHub calculates the lifting order of each round, from the lightest load to the heaviest and broken by the draw number on an equal load, and highlights the athlete on the platform and the next one. Judging is done with the three referees' lights (white or red), the verdict being taken by majority, then kept with the attempt. There is no attempt timer in the tool.

Ranking by weight class on total

CompetHub calculates the total (best snatch + best clean & jerk), ranks each weight class on the highest total and breaks an equal total by the lowest body weight. The ranking builds in real time: an athlete enters the ranking from their first valid attempt, and the order evolves with each lift. On the other hand, the Sinclair coefficient, which compares athletes from different weight classes to designate the best performance across all classes, is not calculated by CompetHub. This calculation stays in the hands of the governing body or an external calculator.

Public results page

You publish a public page in the competition's colors (logo, colors), with the overview, the participants and the ranking by weight class on total. The ranking updates there automatically during the competition, without the spectator reloading the page. It is accessible without an account. The list of entrants exports to CSV for your archives.

How do I create a weightlifting competition with CompetHub?

Create your account, add the competition, enable the meet format in Total mode, apply the weightlifting preset (two lifts) and define the weight classes, then open registrations. On event day, you enter the weigh-in, compose the flights, declare and judge the attempts, and the ranking by weight class on total is calculated, ready to publish.

The sequence handled for weightlifting

Weightlifting is not played in an elimination tree: it is run by weight classes, flights and attempts, like a meet. CompetHub follows the two lifts (snatch, clean & jerk) and the three attempts per lift, keeps only the best valid attempt, then ranks on total by class. For organizers who pair other disciplines, the bracket formats (single elimination, double elimination, pools) remain available on classic competitions.

Which format to run for a weightlifting competition?

Weightlifting is run by weight classes, flights and attempts, not in an elimination bracket. In CompetHub, you enable the meet format in Total mode with two lifts: the tool follows the snatch and the clean & jerk and the three attempts, keeps the best valid attempt, calculates the total and publishes the ranking by weight class.

Does CompetHub replace Excel for a weightlifting competition?

Yes. Where Excel imposes recopying and manual sums, CompetHub centralizes registrations, the weigh-in, the flights and the attempts, then calculates the total and publishes the ranking by class. You keep the history and export entrants to CSV. The Sinclair coefficient stays to be calculated separately.

CompetHub versus other software

CompetHub aims for simplicity. You create a weightlifting competition in a few minutes, with no installation or heavy configuration. Where some federation platforms demand a long learning curve, CompetHub offers the essential building blocks directly: weight classes, weigh-in, flights, entry of the attempts for both lifts, three-white-light judging, ranking on total, public results page. It's a tool to get started fast, whether you organize a club competition or an open.

Frequently asked questions

How do I create a weightlifting competition online?

Create a CompetHub account, add your competition, enable the meet format in Total mode and apply the weightlifting preset (snatch, clean & jerk), define your weight classes, then open registrations. On event day, you enter the weigh-in, compose the flights, declare and judge the attempts, and the ranking by weight class on total is calculated.

Is the software free?

Yes, CompetHub is free to start, no credit card. You manage registrations, weigh-in, flights, attempts and ranking, and publish the public results page for free, before deciding to go further.

Does CompetHub handle the snatch and the clean & jerk?

Yes. The meet format handles two lifts for weightlifting, via the preset that names them snatch and clean & jerk. Each athlete has up to three attempts per lift, so six attempts. CompetHub keeps only the best valid attempt of each lift and makes it the total.

How is the ranking calculated in weightlifting?

CompetHub ranks each weight class on the highest total kg (best snatch + best clean & jerk), broken by the lowest body weight. The Sinclair coefficient, which compares athletes from different classes, is not calculated by CompetHub: it stays in the hands of the governing body or an external calculator.

How are the attempts judged?

Three referees judge each attempt and turn on a white light (good lift) or red (no lift); two white lights are enough to validate. In CompetHub, you enter the three lights and the verdict is taken by majority, then kept with the attempt. CompetHub has no attempt timer.

Can the public follow the results?

Yes. CompetHub publishes a branded public page, accessible without an account, that presents the competition, the participants and the ranking by weight class on total. The ranking updates automatically during the competition.
